General Description
Willapa Hills Farmstead Cheese is a Washington State "Grade A"
Sheep Dairy and Licensed Dairy Processor.  We craft farmstead
and artisan cheese on our 146 acre farm located on the banks
of the Chehalis River in SW Washington.  We make a unique line
of fresh and aged sheep milk, cow milk and  sheep/cow milk
blend cheeses with a particular passion for blue cheeses. Our
flock of sheep are raised on pasture year-round without
exposure to pesticides, commercial fertilizers or growth
hormones. Our feed is free of animal byproducts and our grass
hay is locally grown.  We purchase our cow milk from a local
family cow dairy that shares our commitment to wholesome
natural milk. Our commitment it to continually improve the
sustainability of our integrated farm-based value-added
business to the benefit of the environment and our community.

2010 Internship Position Availability
A total of six 6 positions are available in 2010:
  - Two Spring Positions: March, April & May
  - Two Summer Positions: June, July & August
  - Two Autumn Positions: September, October & November

Actual start and end dates of internships may vary slightly to
accommodate school, work or travel commitments. Applications
will not be accepted for time frames outside of those outlined
above.
Skills Desired
Independent and motivated individuals will do best at Willapa Hills.
Bring an openness for hands-on learning and flexibility to work in
a multi-faceted farm environment. Farm, dairy, and/or livestock
experience a plus. A passion and love for cheese a must!

Duties & Responsibilities
As an intern, you will experience most areas of dairy, creamery
and farm operations.  Common tasks include: handling and milking
sheep; care of lambs; cheese production & affinage; packaging
and shipping; product sales.  Other farm work may include tending
the garden, fence upkeep, and general farm maintenance.

Housing & Stipend
Simple housing provided; Rustic, but comfortable, kitchen,
bathroom and shower room shared with other staff and interns.
Basic food staples provided, as well as access to lamb and
cheese. Vegetables from the garden when available. A basic
stipend is offered.
